March 2023, Batavia City Council voted to make a portion of north River Street, from State Street south to Wilson Street a one-way southbound. Converting the street to one-way allows the City to close the street without a permit from the Illinois Department of Transportation.
Construction on the project is underway and workers are installing one-way signs, removing existing pavement striping and installing new striping along Wilson.
Plans call for a curbed bump out on the northeast corner of Wilson and River Streets. Construction of the curbed bump out will be delayed while the City’s contractor waits for construction materials to become available. In advance of that construction, crews will install a barricade that will mimic the presence of the future bump out.
City crews will move benches and planters once the one-way work is completed by the construction contractor.
