Kane County adopted the Greenest Region Compact (GRC), the largest sustainability collective of communities in the United States, in 2019. Communities within the GRC began the process of creating a Regional Climate Action Plan later that year. The Climate Action Planning Process is led by the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP) and the Metropolitan Mayors Caucus, with support from the Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy. The Regional Climate Action Plan aims to reduce the impacts of climate change and build thriving, resilient communities.
