Unwanted Medication Disposal Program Guidelines

Please refer to the instructions below when disposing medication at the Batavia Police Department. Please take unacceptable items back with you.

  • IV Bags
  • Thermometers
  • Any Illegal Substance/Narcotic
  • DEA Controlled Drugs
  • Bloody or Infectious Waste Empty Containers

Please see the Records Technician at the front window of the police department for questions or to obtain plastic bags (if needed) for any pills, liquid medication, etc.

Remove all pills from their original container (except blister packs) by pouring them directly into a plastic bag. All liquid medication, ointments/salves/lotions and gels shall be segregated and placed into a plastic bag in the original container. Remove labels from original container or black out personal information with marker. Seal all bags completely to prevent spillage and leakage in the collection box.

 Take any empty items (prescription bottles, plastic bottles, boxes, etc.) with you, especially any item with your personal information on it. Check area for any dropped medications.
