Natural Hazards Mitigation Plan

The Kane County Department of Environmental Management and Office of Emergency Management along with Kane County Communities jointly undertook the creation of a Natural Hazards Mitigation Plan for the County. This plan identifies activities that can be undertaken by both government and the private sector to reduce the safety hazards, health hazards, and property damage caused by floods, tornadoes, earthquakes, thunderstorms and winter/ice storms.

Final Plan

In November of 2003, the City of Batavia adopted the final draft of the plan. The plan list five goals, seven guidelines and seventeen actions items the County and each Community must work toward to help limit the risk to life and property by natural hazards. Prior to adoption, the plan was submitted to The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and was approved as the first plan in Region V that meets the criteria of the Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000, the Flood Mitigation Assistance program and the Community Rating System.
