Wastewater Reconstruction Project

Construction of the City of Batavia's Wastewater Treatment Plant Rehabilitation Project is financed by the Clean Water State Revolving Fund (SRF). The SRF program is administered by the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency and receives a portion of its money to fund these types of projects from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

The Rehabilitation Project consists of:

  • Installation of chemical phosphorus removal;
  • Rehabilitation of excess flow chlorination facilities;
  • Rehabilitation of the existing anaerobic digesters;
  • Construction of digester operations and intermediate pump station buildings;
  • Construction of digested sludge tanks and a solids handling building; and
  • Construction of new Main Building (contains a maintenance garage, administration area and sludge dewatering area). The above improvements are the first phase of a three-phase improvements program to replace aging infrastructure and equipment as well as achieve current and future capacity requirements and effluent limits. SRF programs operate in each state to provide communities the resources necessary to build, maintain, and improve the infrastructure that protects one of our most valuable resources: water.
