Main Street Reconstruction

Van Nortwick Ave. to Randall Rd.

Project Summary

The City of Batavia was recently awarded $2,340,000 in Federal Surface Transportation Funds (STP) for the reconstruction of Main Street from Van Nortwick Avenue to Randall Road. The City of Batavia is pleased to kick-off a study to begin the preliminary design process.

Main Street is a heavily traveled road that is officially designated as a minor arterial and a truck route. It is the main roadway for the entrance to Batavia High School, the Batavia Fire Department West Fire Station, Batavia Covenant Church, local businesses, residences, and parks. Currently, the roadway is in poor condition and will need to be completely reconstructed. This presents an opportunity to not only improve the traveling experience for vehicles, but for pedestrians and bicycles as well.

Phase I Study

The first step in finding the best solution for Main Street is through a study of alternatives, known as Phase I.   The Phase I study is now starting and is anticipated to conclude by mid-2023. There will be opportunities for public involvement to review the intermediate findings of the study as we progress into 2022. The study will be followed by engineering plan preparation (Phase II), anticipated to be completed in 2024.

Construction of the project is tentatively scheduled to start in 2025. Date ranges for the project phases above are subject to change due to funding availability and review by federal, state, and local agencies. Please check back for updates.
