New Batavia Resident Checklist

Welcome to Batavia! We're so glad you've chosen to make this city your home. We've compiled a list of information to help you access utility services, as well as links to help you learn about the city's schools, parks, and library.

HOME SERVICES AND UTILITIES
 

Water/Sewer and Electric 

To set up your water/sewer and electric services with the Utility Billing Department at the City of Batavia you  will need the following information: 

  • Your name 
  • Address 
  • Drivers license or state ID info 
  • The date your lease starts 

With this information in hand, call Batavia Utility Billing at 630-454-2020.

To pay your water/sewer and electric bills you must create an account online with Paymentus

You also have the option to pay your bill with a check or money order at City Hall during regular business hours. For after-hours, there is a dropbox in the front parking lot and one in the police department lobby of Batavia City Hall, 100 N. Island Ave.

Natural Gas 

Nicor Gas provides Batavia's services. Call them to set up services at 888-642-6748 . 

 

Refuse/recycling/yard waste/brush collection 

Groot Industries is Batavia's third-party vendor for garbage and curbside recycling collection. Call to set up your collection service contact  Groot directly at batavia@groot.com, or visit groot.com, or call 630-892-9294.

 

Check the city's refuse collection schedule to find out your weekly collection day.  


The yard waste season runs from mid-March (free for the first two collections in March) through November; yard waste (containing leaves only) can be placed out during December without a sticker. 


Brush collection is provided by paying a $5 monthly leaf and brush fee on your City of Batavia utility bill.  

Curbside program runs from May through the week following Thanksgiving, seven collections per season. The schedule is available here

 

Leaf collection is Provided by City crews. $5 monthly leaf and brush fee on your City of Batavia utility bill. Curbside collection is provided for two to three cycles beginning in mid-October and running into November. Schedules are published in the early fall here


Curbside electronics recycling is available for a fee. Get the details here


Kane County offers recycling for electronics and other items. The program includes a daily drop-off location on Fabyan Parkway and several one-day collection events in St. Charles. Get the details here.  


Household hazardous waste collection is available of qualifying household hazardous waste items is available through the city from our third-party contractor. Details are here.  


Phone/cable/internet services are not provided through the City of Batavia. Residents are welcome to shop around and choose the provider that works best for them.


PARKING

The City of Batavia prohibits overnight parking on all city streets between 1 and 6 a.m. However, if you need to park overnight, you may apply for an overnight parking permit. You may apply for a permit with this online form. Please note: overnight parking is not allowed on any city street when snowfall reaches 2 or more inches regardless of whether or not you have received a permit to park overnight.

 

BPS 101 SCHOOL INFORMATION

 

To enroll your student in Batavia Public School District, visit bps101.net/registration. Forms are online, or you may visit the BPS 101 District Office at 335 W. Wilson St. during regular office hours.


Early each calendar year the Batavia Public School District compiles Fact Sheets for each of the eight schools. These sheets display general school, academic, and support-related data.  Find them here.

The information is a compilation of data that is recorded at the school, and also some information that can be found on the Illinois Report Card’s website.

 

 

BATAVIA PUBLIC LIBRARY 

 

Residents can apply for a free library card in person at the Batavia Public Library, 10 S. Batavia Ave. To apply for a library card you will need to provide a photo ID and one piece of identification that verifies your residency. The following documents containing your name and address accepted as proof of residency are: 

  • Current utility bill
  • Current real estate tax bill
  • Rental agreement or lease
  • Current bank statement
  • Current credit card bill

In addition to the collection of books, audiobooks, DVDs, music, newspapers, magazines, and video games, your library card grants you access to the digital library to stream or download ebooks and other content. The library also has two computer labs and the use of one-hour internet stations is free for Batavia residents and non-resident students.

ILLINOIS SECRETARY OF STATE FACILITY (Department of Motor Vehicles)


The Secretary of State Facility nearest to Batavia, the nearest is 339 E. Indian Trail Aurora, IL 60505.  Driver services are by appointment only. Some of the services this facility provides include:  

  • Address Change 
  • Commercial Driver’s License 
  • Disability Placards 
  • Drivers License 
  • License Plates 
  • State ID
  •  Voter Registration Applications

BATAVIA PARK DISTRICT

The Batavia Park District maintains and operates approximately 400 acres, comprised of 40 sites, an skating/skateboarding park, a swimming quarry facility, a museum and a multitude of baseball and soccer fields, tennis and basketball courts and more.
