Brian DiNicola named 2022 Firefighter of the Year

DiNicola-firefighter2022 The Batavia Fried Department Benevolent Association Membership named Firefighter/Paramedic Brian DiNicola as it's 2022 Randy Zies Firefighter of the Year.

DiNicola has been a member of the Batavia Fire Department since April 2013. In the written nomination for DiNicola, the membership stated: "Brian is the example of what it is to be a Batavia Firefighter. He has stood out above everyone this year with his leadership on calls and at the station."

The award was given at the Firefighter of the Year Awards dinner, held Oct. 22.  The night honors the members for their hard work over the past year and recognizes personnel for answering difficult fire and medical calls. The nomination letter continues:

"This past year, {Brian's] ability to apply tactics in stressful situations has executed removal of a patient by using rope to lower a large patient from the second floor, and the execution of the company to dismantle a staircase for her safe removal to the ambulance."

DiNicola was also praised for his leadership skills and both training and mentorship.

"This past year he has reached out to multiple members who have been going through rough times off the job. Brian has been there to mentor and help these individuals get back on their feet.

"Brian is the firefighter we should all mirror. From emergency call skills to station pride, leadership at the station and taking care of our fire families. This year Brian has again raised the bar for all of us to strive for."

DiNicola and his wife Jennifer live in Batavia with their two children.
