1. What time should my trash be out?

Please have it at the curb no later than 6 a.m. on your scheduled date. 

2. Do I need to separate my recyclables?

All recyclables may be mixed together inside the recycling cart. Please do not place recyclable material in plastic bags. Please place only approved recycling items in the cart. The collector is trained to check the contents of the cart. If there are foreign materials present, the cart will be left with a violation notice. 3. How can I dispose of large items or construction debris?

The program includes collection of unlimited bulk items each week as long as a prepaid disposal sticker is affixed to each item. “Large Household Item or Bulk Item” shall mean any discarded and unwanted large household appliances and furnishings, including, but not limited to: refrigerators, freezers, stoves, trash compactors, washers, dryers, dishwashers, furnaces, hot water heaters, air conditioners, humidifiers, dehumidifiers, microwaves, water softeners, tables, chairs, mattresses, box springs, bookcases, sofas, similar furniture, and car tires only.  “White goods”, including those containing CFC’s (chlorofluorocarbons), switches containing mercury, and PCB’s (polychlorinated biphenyls) shall all fit within this definition. Each of these items are to be considered a “disposal unit” and shall require one disposal sticker.

Oversized and overweight items are any single large or extra heavy item, such as a piano, hot tub, etc. requires Groot to schedule a special pick-up. There will be an additional fee per item. Please contact Groot at (630) 892-9294 for more details and pricing.

Construction Demolition Debris

All material must be cut to no more than 4 feet in length and no larger than 2 feet in diameter. For the safety of the collector, all debris must be bagged or bundled and free of nails and sharp objects not exceeding 50 pounds. Please contact Groot at 630-892-9294 for more details and pricing.

4. Is there a limit on the amount of recyclables that can be placed out each week for collection?

5. How can I dispose of paint cans or hazardous materials?

Residents can schedule a front door pickup of household hazardous waste by calling Clean Harbors Environmental Services, Inc. at 1-866-466-5060 Monday - Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. or submitting online request form. If there is no answer, please leave a voicemail and your call will be returned.

6. Do I need to rinse containers and remove labels? What about pizza boxes?

Bottles and cans should be rinsed, and lids and caps replaced. You don’t need to remove the labels. Pizza boxes should be free of food and flattened to be recycled. Recyclables should be clean and empty. For details, please visit the Curbside Recycling page.
