The Batavia Police Department has been made aware that the high school Senior Assassin game has begun.
For those unfamiliar, Senior Assassin involves participants attempting to “eliminate” designated targets by surprising them and using water guns or other approved items. Players often wear ski masks or dark clothing, and they may be seen hiding around homes or public areas—frequently in the early mornings before school or during the afternoons and evenings. The game is not allowed during school hours or on school property.
Although the activity itself is not illegal, it can be dangerous. BPD typically receives multiple calls from concerned community members who see participants dressed suspiciously or carrying items that resemble real weapons. These calls must be treated as potential criminal incidents, as responding officers cannot know whether a weapon is real. Such situations create risks for officers, participants, and the community. In rare cases, actions taken during the game may even result in criminal charges.
Student and community safety remain top priorities for the Batavia Police Department. Unfortunately, Senior Assassin poses potential for unintended harm or serious consequences. If your student chooses to participate, we strongly encourage parents to speak with them about how to safely handle any encounter with police. It is essential that they follow officers’ instructions immediately and precisely. They should never run from law enforcement.
Residents who observe this activity are encouraged not to approach participants and to contact the Batavia Police Department’s non-emergency line at 630-454-2500 if they are unsure whether a situation is part of the game or something more serious.
If you or your student have questions, please contact the Batavia Police Department at 630‑454‑2500.
