The following information was released Sunday, Aug. 17 in a joint news release with the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office, Kane County Sheriff’s Office , and City of Batavia Police Department.
On Saturday, August 16, 2025, at about 4:00 p.m., multiple law enforcement agencies responded to an incident in the 1200 block of E. Wilson St. in Batavia. The response included officers from the City of Batavia Police Department, who arrived on the scene first, and officers from the Kane County Sheriff’s Office. The incident resulted in the death of a 39-year-old* male.
Preliminary investigative findings indicate that the 39-year-old male was armed with a firearm and fired at officers. Law enforcement officers also discharged their weapons during the incident. It has not yet been determined whether any of the rounds fired by law enforcement struck the suspect or contributed to his death.
The incident is being investigated by the Kane County Major Crimes Task Force. After the investigation’s completion, the Task Force will turn all reports over to the Kane County State’s Attorney’s office for an independent review of the facts.
