We’re proud to share that Batavia has been named a Bronze-level Bicycle Friendly Community by the League of American Bicyclists. This recognition reflects our ongoing efforts to make biking safer, more accessible, and more welcoming for everyone who lives in and visits our community.
As part of our commitment to being a great place to live and thrive, the City of Batavia—along with our Active Transportation Advisory Commission—applied for the Bicycle Friendly Community designation. Creating a best-in-class transportation system that serves all users has long been one of our goals, and that includes building a community that is easier and safer to navigate by bike.
Today, we’re excited to join 444 communities across the country that have earned Bicycle Friendly Community status.
“Building better places to bike is a shared effort,” said Bill Nesper, executive director of the League of American Bicyclists. “The communities recognized here are part of a growing national movement, taking practical steps to support bicycling as a safe, accessible, and valuable part of everyday life.”
Across Batavia, more people are choosing to bike—for commuting, running errands, and recreation. This Bronze designation recognizes our continued investments in bike education, community events, supportive policies, and bicycle infrastructure that improve conditions for people of all ages and abilities.
“Batavia has a long-term commitment to earning certification as a Bike Friendly Community. The City’s Bike and Pedestrian Plan, along with the 2024–2028 Strategic Plan, guides ongoing efforts to create a comprehensive, connected network of streets and paths that supports safe and accessible walking and biking throughout Batavia,” said City of Batavia Administrator Laura Newman.
