The Batavia Police Department conducted a focused traffic safety campaign throughout July to remind motorists that Speeding Catches Up with You and to encourage safer driving habits.

The campaign was part of a statewide effort involving multiple law enforcement agencies, the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), and the Illinois State Police, with the shared goal of reducing highway fatalities and injuries caused by speeding.

During the enforcement period, Batavia officers dedicated 64.25 hours solely to this initiative. As a result, officers recorded:

  • 66 traffic contacts

  • 63 traffic citations issued

    • 48 of these were speeding citations

  • 2 suspended/revoked license arrests

  • 2 other criminal arrests

  • 15 additional enforcement contacts

This campaign supports IDOT’s broader It’s Not a Game initiative, which underscores that dangerous driving behaviors carry serious — and often tragic — consequences.

The speed enforcement effort was funded by federal highway safety dollars administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT).
