🚧 Downtown Sidewalk Improvements Begin Sept. 29 🚧
Starting Monday, Sept. 29 (weather permitting), crews will be replacing brick pavers with new concrete sidewalks in two areas of Downtown Batavia:
1️⃣ Fox River Path – From the Wilson Street Bridge south to the pedestrian bridge to Clark Island.
• Work expected to take five days.
• Closures: City parking lot along east side of Shumway Ave. + both pedestrian bridges on west side of Clark Island.
2️⃣ East Side of Route 31/Batavia Ave. – From Houston St. south to Wilson St.
• Work expected to take five days.
• Temporary lane closures will occur along Route 31.
✅ All businesses along these routes will remain open for normal operation.

The department is made up of two divisions:

📌 Finance & Accounting
This division manages the collection, monitoring, and disbursement of City funds. Their responsibilities include:

Compiling the City’s budget

Coordinating the annual audit & creating audited financial statements

Managing accounts receivable/payable, payroll, purchase orders

Investing idle funds & coordinating debt issuance

Preparing the annual property tax levy

As stewards of public funds, their mission is to ensure efficient and effective use of every dollar.

📌 Utility Billing
The City of Batavia provides electric, water, and wastewater services. The Utility Billing team ensures accurate, timely billing and collection for all residential, commercial, and industrial customers.

Since 1866, the department has been dedicated to protecting lives and property, providing fire suppression, rescue, and emergency medical services to the residents of Batavia, as well as the surrounding Batavia Township and Countryside Fire Protection District.

The Batavia Fire Department is staffed by:

25 full-time firefighters

12 full-time paramedics

27 part-time personnel

On-duty staff are stationed at two locations, ensuring a quick and professional response whenever our community needs them.

Their responsibilities include installing and supporting computers, peripherals, networking, mobile devices, internal phones, software applications, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for City staff.

Our I.T. team includes an Information Technology Director, Systems Manager, Technician, and GIS Analyst—working together to provide cost-effective technology solutions that help us better serve Batavia residents every day.

Batavia High School Homecoming Parade – Wednesday, Sept. 10

Batavia High School will host its annual Homecoming Parade on Wednesday, Sept. 10. The parade will follow the same route as 2024, which reduces the need for downtown road closures. Spectators are welcome to watch along sidewalks and grassy areas.

Traffic impacts:

Temporary closures will affect W. Wilson Street and Main Street west of Route 31 (Batavia Avenue).

All intersecting roads will be impacted.

Detours will be in place via McKee Street or Fabyan Parkway to the north and Route 56 in North Aurora to the south. Drivers traveling from downtown to Randall Road should use McKee or Fabyan.

Parade schedule and route:

Staging: 4–4:45 p.m., Batavia High School Wilson Street parking lot

Step-off: 5 p.m.

Route: East on Wilson to South on Lincoln to West on Main to return to Batavia High School (Main Street lot).

The parade is expected to last about one hour, with all roads reopened by 6:15 p.m. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead to avoid delays.

NEWS RELEASE:
Batavia Police Investigate Stolen Vehicle and Car Burglaries

BATAVIA, IL -- On Thursday, August 21, 2025, at approximately 3:37 AM, Batavia Police responded to a report of a motor vehicle theft in the 2400 block of Bird Lane. The victim reported their white 2024 Toyota Highlander stolen from their driveway. The resident’s surveillance video indicates the vehicle was taken at approximately 2:11 AM. The suspects arrived in a small, white SUV. Police checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle or any suspects. Police were subsequently notified of car burglaries in the area located in the 2500 block of Bird Lane and the 800 block of Twin Elms Lane.

All of these incidents, which occurred in the Tanglewood subdivision, are likely connected. There is no evidence of forced entry to the vehicles that were burglarized. Batavia Police are actively developing and following leads and working with other law enforcement agencies. Other nearby jurisdictions have taken reports of similar types of car burglaries.

Residents are reminded to lock their vehicles and not to leave any valuables or keys in them. Anyone with information on these incidents is asked to contact the Batavia Police Department Investigations Division at 630-454-2500.

🚧 Temporary Fox River Trail Detour 🚧

Starting Wednesday, July 30, a section of the Fox River Trail will be closed for sewer work—from Water and Main streets (north) to Union Street and Pamarco Drive (south).

🚴‍♀️ Trail users: Please follow posted detour signs to navigate safely around the closure.
📅 Work is expected to be completed by August 8.
