Batavia High School will host its annual Homecoming Parade on Wednesday, Sept. 10. The parade will follow the same route as 2024, which reduces the need for downtown road closures. Spectators are welcome to watch along sidewalks and grassy areas.
Traffic impacts:
Temporary closures will affect W. Wilson Street and Main Street west of Route 31 (Batavia Avenue).
All intersecting roads will be impacted.
Detours will be in place via McKee Street or Fabyan Parkway to the north and Route 56 in North Aurora to the south. Drivers traveling from downtown to Randall Road should use McKee or Fabyan.
Parade schedule and route:
Staging: 4–4:45 p.m., Batavia High School Wilson Street parking lot
Step-off: 5 p.m.
Route: East on Wilson to South on Lincoln to West on Main to return to Batavia High School (Main Street lot).
The parade is expected to last about one hour, with all roads reopened by 6:15 p.m. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead to avoid delays.

The Batavia City Council Committee of the Whole meets at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9. Agenda items include zoning map amendments, discussion on public EV charger rates, and the presentation of the 2026 City Budget. The meeting at 100 N. Island Ave. is open to the public. City Council Vacancy – 7th Ward
The City of Batavia is accepting applications to fill a vacancy on the City Council in the 7th Ward. The position is to serve the unexpired term of Sarah Volgelsinger, which runs through 2029. The deadline to apply is Friday, Sept. 19, 5 p.m.
Applicants must be Batavia residents currently living in the 7th Ward.

NEWS RELEASE:
Batavia Police Investigate Stolen Vehicle and Car Burglaries
BATAVIA, IL -- On Thursday, August 21, 2025, at approximately 3:37 AM, Batavia Police responded to a report of a motor vehicle theft in the 2400 block of Bird Lane. The victim reported their white 2024 Toyota Highlander stolen from their driveway. The resident’s surveillance video indicates the vehicle was taken at approximately 2:11 AM. The suspects arrived in a small, white SUV. Police checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle or any suspects. Police were subsequently notified of car burglaries in the area located in the 2500 block of Bird Lane and the 800 block of Twin Elms Lane.
All of these incidents, which occurred in the Tanglewood subdivision, are likely connected. There is no evidence of forced entry to the vehicles that were burglarized. Batavia Police are actively developing and following leads and working with other law enforcement agencies. Other nearby jurisdictions have taken reports of similar types of car burglaries.
Residents are reminded to lock their vehicles and not to leave any valuables or keys in them. Anyone with information on these incidents is asked to contact the Batavia Police Department Investigations Division at 630-454-2500.
