💡 About Power Restoration
The City of Batavia Electric Division responds to outages affecting Batavia Electric customers within City limits. Some residents within Batavia receive electric service from ComEd and should report outages directly to ComEd.
After severe weather, crews begin assessing damage and restoring power as quickly and safely as possible. For safety reasons, bucket trucks cannot be used until sustained winds are below 30 mph. Restoration efforts and damage assessments often occur simultaneously so crews can restore service as quickly as conditions allow.
Stay weather aware, avoid downed wires, and monitor official City communication channels for updates throughout the storm.

Asphalt restoration work will take place on First Street between S. Batavia Avenue and S. Van Nortwick Avenue on Tuesday, June 16, and Wednesday, June 17.
🚗 Drivers should expect delays in the area and are encouraged to seek alternate routes if possible.
Thank you for your patience as we complete these improvements.

The age requirement for e-scooters is based on Illinois state law, not a rule created by the City. Illinois law already restricts the use of low-speed scooters (those traveling less than 10 mph) to riders age 18 and older. Because state law was already more restrictive for slower scooters, it did not make sense to allow younger children to operate newer e-scooters that can travel much faster. While cities can adopt some local regulations, they cannot create rules that are less restrictive than state law or that conflict with it. In other words, the City cannot lower the minimum age established by Illinois law.
The City also adopted the age restrictions with safety in mind. Today's e-scooters and e-bikes can travel at speeds far greater than traditional bicycles, often sharing roads, intersections, and multi-use paths with vehicles, pedestrians, and other cyclists. Higher speeds require quick decision-making, awareness of traffic laws, and the ability to react safely in complex situations. While maturity and responsibility vary from person to person, laws generally rely on age thresholds because they provide a clear and consistent standard that can be applied fairly to everyone.
Batavia developed an ordinance in response to safety concerns raised by residents, law enforcement, and community stakeholders. The goal is to reduce crashes and injuries while helping ensure that riders have the maturity and experience needed to operate these devices responsibly. Through our Roll Smart campaign, we're focused on education, safety, and helping everyone enjoy e-mobility devices responsibly while keeping our streets, sidewalks, and paths safe for all users.

ComEd crews will be performing tree removal work later this afternoon near Republic Road as part of ongoing efforts to address damage to utility poles and power lines.
A large crane will be brought into the area and staged within Memorial Park to remove trees impacting the lines. Residents and park visitors should expect increased activity, equipment, and work crews in and around the park during this operation.
For your safety, please avoid work areas, obey all posted signs and barricades, and give crews plenty of space to complete their work safely and efficiently.
Thank you for your patience and cooperation.
💡 Prepare Before the Storm
• Charge phones, battery packs, and other essential devices
• Keep flashlights and fresh batteries readily available
• Have a NOAA weather radio or another way to receive emergency information
• Check backup battery systems for sump pumps
• Consider a UPS (battery backup) for internet equipment and sensitive electronics
• Keep food and water on hand that doesn't require refrigeration
• Know how to operate the emergency release on your garage door in case you lose power
• Make sure you have a house key or another way to access your home if electronic locks, garage door openers, or access systems are unavailable
⚠️ Generator Safety: Protect Your Family and First Responders
• NEVER use a generator indoors, in a garage, or near windows and doors. Generators produce deadly carbon monoxide.
• Use extension cords plugged directly into the generator to power appliances and devices.
• NEVER connect a generator directly to your home's electrical panel. Backfeeding electricity onto utility lines can seriously injure or kill utility crews and emergency responders.
• Follow all manufacturer safety instructions and operate generators outdoors in a well-ventilated area.
⚡ If the Power Goes Out
📞 Call 630-454-BULB (2852) to report the outage. Social media is not monitored for outage reports.
⚠️ During an Outage
• Never approach a downed power line or anything it may be touching
• Watch for damaged trees and hanging branches that could fall unexpectedly
• Keep refrigerator and freezer doors closed as much as possible
• Minimize opening exterior doors to help keep your home cool
• If your garage door won't open, use the emergency release and open it manually
⚡ How Restoration Happens
When severe weather causes outages, Batavia Electric crews work as quickly and safely as possible to restore service. For the safety of our employees, bucket trucks cannot be used until sustained winds drop below 30 mph.
Restoration begins with damage assessments and repairs happening simultaneously whenever possible. Crews prioritize repairs in the following order:
🔹 Main feeder lines serving neighborhoods
🔹 Critical facilities such as water treatment, police, and fire services
🔹 Multi-unit housing and outages affecting large numbers of customers
🔹 Individual homes and businesses
📢 Alert Batavia (CodeRED) notifications are issued only for widespread and extended power outages. For smaller or isolated outages, updates may be shared through City social media channels and our website. Sign up for alerts at https://accountportal.onsolve.net/bataviaalerts.
🏠 After an Outage
• If neighbors have power but you do not, call 630-454-BULB
• Never enter a flooded basement until power has been disconnected
• If your electric service equipment is damaged, contact a qualified electrician. Batavia Electric cannot restore service until required repairs and inspections are completed.
• If trees are tangled in power lines, Batavia Electric crews will clear the wires before the property owner removes the tree
⚡ Some Batavia residents receive electric service from ComEd. If you are a ComEd customer, please report outages directly to ComEd.
